Introduction
This project sets out to create a school for twelve painters to live and work in Richmond, Virginia.

Idea
The central idea of this project is to utilize the leftover space within the back alley of a city block, creating a collective of buildings and outdoor space that are the foundation for the painters' community.

Iteration

Modeling
These models build off the iterative stage, explore material, light, and proportion, and respond to the scale and grain of the surrounding context.

A Machine For Light
The studio building has a facade that gives each painter's space a unique window shade that allows that artist to choose the amount of light entering their studio.
